New Instrument: Drums-But I don't know how to play!

Posted by Six-String-Ally - August 19th, 2012

I haven't been on Newgrounds for a while :-( But I'm happy to be back:-)

I've been busy writing songs, and I finally posted my first original song on YouTube! Allison Merten's "Like They All Did"

I want to go to the recording studio and record this song, but right now, all I have is my electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and a keyboard. I could record with "synthesizer drums," but I'd rather have real instruments in my recording. So, I decided to get a drum set! I know, it's kind of crazy because I have no clue how to play the drums.
But, I'm super excited about it!

Do any of you have advice for a very very very beginner drummer?

bang boom crash oops I broke my drumset

LOL. I think that's the worst case scenario. I sure hope it turns out better than that ;-)

Way to take it to the next level haha
Theres gobs of practice/studies on the internet, particularly Youtube

They will all emphasize practicing to a metronome, as any instrument classical study;
or at least to your favorite jams!

Thanks for the advice! :-)

Keep it simple!

Music lore has it than Lenny Kravitz plays the drums on his own records, and that he absolutely SUCKS at it. However, you can't tell cuz his drum patterns fit the rest of the song so well and the song itself is so well structured that it all fits like a glove! He's the master at putting together super simple parts and making them sound good!

I didn't know that about Lenny Kravitz. Thanks much for the advice!!! :-)
